PASAY CITY -- Continuing his commitment to help more pandemic-affected households recover and build back better, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go sent his team to distribute assistance to 7,200 vulnerable individuals in Dagupan City, Pangasinan from October 5 to 9.

Despite filing his candidacy for Vice President for the upcoming national elections, Go stressed that his focus remains on fulfilling his mandate as a senator and in ensuring public service delivery amid the ongoing crisis.

"Sabi ko nga, mamaya na muna 'yung pulitika, tapos na 'yung filing, let's go back to work. Unahin po natin 'yung pagseserbisyo para sa ating mga kababayan bago ang halalan. At bakuna muna bago pulitika," said Go.

Held at Dagupan City Plaza, Go's team grouped the beneficiaries into smaller batches per day while necessary safety and health protocols were observed. They then gave the beneficiaries relief items, such as meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins.

Go also sent new pairs of shoes and bicycles for selected recipients; he likewise gave away computer tablets for children's education.

In his video message, Go commended several government agencies for their contributions to further support the community.

Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development gave each recipient financial assistance while the Department of Agriculture gave supplies of vegetable seeds.

The Department of Trade and Industry conducted an assessment of potential beneficiaries in need of livelihood support. The Department of Health, for its part, gave supplies of medicines and vitamins.

As a father who works two jobs, Feric Quezon, 48, shared that the pandemic challenged his livelihood as a construction worker and as a fisherman. He further mentioned that even with two jobs, he still struggles to sustain the needs of his family.

"'Yung kinikita ko po, minsan sapat pero madalas kinukulang. Mahirap po talaga ngayong pandemya. Kaya po para kay Senator Bong Go, maraming, maraming salamat po talaga sa binigay niyong tulong sa aming mahihirap. Malaking tulong po ito sa aking pamilya," Quezon expressed.

As the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Go offered to help those who are in need of hospital care. He advised the beneficiaries to seek medical attention at Region 1 Medical Center in the city where there is a Malasakit Center ready to help with their medical expenses.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop which streamlines the process of acquiring aid from the DOH, DSWD, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office. Since its launch in 2018, there are now 142 Malasakit Centers in the country which have benefitted more than three million Filipinos nationwide.

"Marami pong nawalan ng trabaho, marami pong nagsara na negosyo, kaya mga kababayan ko, magpabakuna na po kayo para naman po ito sa kapakanan ng nakararami. Magtiwala lang ho kayo sa gobyerno," Go expressed.

"Kami po ni Pangulong Duterte, ginagawa po namin ang lahat sa abot ng aming makakaya upang malampasan po natin itong krisis na ating kinakaharap sa ngayon," he added.

Continuing his remarks, Go reminded the beneficiaries to continue adhering to necessary health protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus. He then encouraged them to take part in the national vaccination program to further protect them from the virus.

The senator, who serves as the Vice Chair of Senate Committee on Finance, supported several infrastructure projects in the city, including the construction of flood control structure, several roads, and a maternal lying clinic, and the rehabilitation of all public markets.

He also supported other projects in Pangasinan intended to improve public service delivery in the province, such as the construction of farm-to-market roads in Aguilar, Calasiao, San Fabian, and Umingan; acquisition of medical equipment for Western Pangasinan District Hospital in Alaminos, and Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in Tayug; acquisition of ambulance units in Anda, Lingayen, and Mangaldan; construction of public parks in Dasol, and Lingayen; acquisition of dump trucks in Mangaldan, and Villasis; construction of a multi-purpose center in Binmaley; construction of multi-purpose buildings in Burgos, Natividad, Pozorrubio, and Urbiztondo; and the installation of solar-powered street lights in Binmalay, San Jacinto, and Villasis.

Senator Go then conveyed his appreciation towards Representative Christopher "Toff" de Venecia, Mayor Brian Lim, Councilor Cecilia Lim, and other local officials for supporting their constituents to help them recover from the challenges caused by the pandemic.

Salamat po," he ended.

Last June 7, Go's team distributed assistance to 23 households whose houses were damaged by a fire incident in Brgy. Pantal, Dagupan City.

In December 2018, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Pangasinan passed a resolution, signed by Governor Amado Espino III, declaring Go as an adopted son of the province. (OSBG)
