MANILA – The local chief executive of Pasacao town in Camarines Sur cited the importance of vaccination and strict implementation of the guidelines of the National Task Force Against COVID-19 toward decreasing COVID-19 cases and reopening the tourism industry in the locality.

Mayor Niño Tayco said during the Network Briefing News hosted by Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary JV Arcena on Tuesday, October 12, that the local government is strictly following the guidelines set by the national government, which turned out to be a key factor in decreasing COVID-19 cases in the town for the last few weeks.

"Naglagay po tayo ng border control points doon sa boundary ng Pasacao para makita natin iyong returning locally stranded individuals po natin. [We have set up border control points in the Pasacao boundary so that we can check on our returning locally stranded individuals]," he said.

For tourism recovery efforts, the local government established tourist assistance and monitoring centers with the help of the Department of Tourism, in order to guide local tourists on the DOT-accredited spots and resorts in Pasacao.

"We need to follow the rules [set by DOT] para malimitahan ang mga turista na darating dito sa bayan ng Pasacao, lalo na yung beachgoers natin. [We need to follow the rules [set by DOT] to limit the number of tourists coming here to Pasacao town, especially our beachgoers]," Mayor Tayco added.

Aside from government guidelines against COVID-19, Mayor Tayco also recognized the importance of the vaccination of his constituents in order to recover from the onslaught of the pandemic.

He admitted the prevalence of vaccine hesitancy in the town, but he also assured that his people are realizing the importance of the vaccination program towards recovery.

"Iyong una talaga medyo hesitant ang mga tao, takot sila at kung ano iyong epekto sa kanila directly but later on nakita nila na kailangan po talaga natin ito. [At first people were really hesitant and scared of its side effects but later on they saw that we really needed it]," he said.

At present, the town registered 3,731 individuals who are fully vaccinated. The local government is also waiting for another allocation of COVID-19 vaccines from the national and provincial governments.

"Interesado ang mga tao [na magpabakuna] kaya mabilis ang liquidation report na sina-submit ng ating Municipal Health Office sa Provincial Health Office dahil requirement ito para mabigyan ulit po kami ng panibagong allocation ng bakuna. [People are interested [in getting vaccinated] and the liquidation report submitted by our Municipal Health Office to the Provincial Health Office is already accomplished because it is mandatory so that we will be given another allocation of vaccines]," Mayor Tayco shared.
