Presidential candidate and Vice President Leni Robredo will provide cash aid to solo parents who are minimum wage earners, as well as provide scholarships to their children if she becomes president.
"'Isa sa mga proposals 'yung mga minimum wage earners ay meron silang mga cash assistance every month para makatulong," Robredo said during the "Nasugbloom: Multi-Sectoral Assembly" in Nasugbu, Batangas on Saturday.
(Among our proposals is to provide cash assistance to minimum wage earners every month to help them.)
Robredo made the remark when asked by a representative of solo parents what her plans are for them.
Robredo, a solo parent since the death in a plane crash of her husband former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo in 2012, lamented the insufficient support of the government for solo parents.
"'Yung scholarships nasa batas na 'yun dati pero hindi siya nasusunod, kaya kailangan sa IRR, kailangan siyang maisingit na priority talaga 'yung mga anak ng mga solo parents," she said, referring to the Solo Parents' Welfare Act of 200.
(As for scholarships, it's in the law but it's not implemented. It should be included in the implementing rules and regulations or IRR to give priority for the children of solo parents.)
Apart from cash aid and scholarships, the presidential bet also plans to provide social services to solo parents such as a facility where they can leave their children while they are at work and a comprehensive medical assistance for their children. --LBG, GMA News
