Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a model in the Philippine fashion industry––to be able to walk the runway in gowns made by famous designers or appear in the pages of illustrious magazines?
Well, in this #SayPHExclusive article, we talk to part-time model Nicole Trisha as she shares with us what being a model is really like in the Philippines, how she's able to juggle her growing modeling career with her full-time job, and what advice she can give to aspiring models who want to pursue this glamorous line of work.
Here's what we learned from her:
Find a system that works for you
As many professional models know, the fashion industry is a fast-paced and demanding environment that requires a lot of time, energy, and preparation. In addition to working multiple modeling gigs and events, you would also need to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle and have an updated portfolio for potential clients to look at. So, having a full-time job while modeling can be difficult if you're not well-prepared for it; but for Nicole, it's all about finding a system that works for you and not being afraid of making mistakes along the way.
"The how (balancing modeling with full-time work) is quite tricky here because there was [a] progression and several trials and errors [I had to go through] to find a system that worked for me. It boils down to discipline. I find that keeping a lightly active lifestyle helps put these pieces together because it provides you the energy needed to sustain and utilize the day," she explains.
Remote work has also helped Nicole in pursuing her modeling career and has given her the freedom to manage her time and projects effectively.
"Working remotely and online gave me that flexibility to do what I wanted and to discover whether modeling was really for me," she shares. "I work nights and there is a common misconception that night shifters sleep during the day right after clocking out, but it was more of an opportunity for me to freely spend my mornings and adjust my sleeping time."
As of this writing, Nicole has done multiple runway events for Philippine designers and has even become a part of the marketing campaign for Domino Skin.
Be prepared for a different working-sleeping schedule
A normal day for Nicole would start at night and end mid-afternoon.
"My day starts at 9PM. I wake up, do my usual get up routine, and start work. I would nap after it ends and either go to the gym, do some errands, or catch up on work I haven't done. Any remaining time would be for me to eat or sleep or just chill," she describes. "I have a late afternoon routine in preparation for me to sleep and that's when my day ends which would be around 3PM or 4PM. It doesn't sound like a lot of sleep goes in there, but it is!"
However, she says that sometimes this schedule changes when she gets a call for modeling projects. So it's important to be ready for changes in your usual routine.
Luckily for Nicole, most of her events happen on the weekend which works well with her current work schedule.
Be open-minded, strong, and composed when you consider modeling
Throughout her experience in walking runways and going through photoshoots, Nicole shares these tips in the hopes of helping any aspiring model in the Philippines:
Be open-minded: "[The] Opportunities are endless and worth trying. It is hard, but we [models should] continue to hustle especially if you [have] found the love for it. It is an art form and a mode of expression. It is highly open to experimentation so we can explore and make it our own."
Be strong: "We have to be strong against all criticism since it is a very visual industry. We cannot be sensitive and we have to be able to identify actual helpful comments versus just haters hating."
Maintain composure: "Keep composure, kindness, and grace. Remember, we want to build relationships within the industry and gain accessibility to work with amazing people."

Is it just me or we're already more than 2-years since the onset of pandemic, yet adding-to-cart, still, is one of our ways of coping with what's happening all over the world? I'm sure many will agree that notifications in our phone telling that "Your order has been delivered," brings so much excitement these days. Aminin...
With that, I'm happy to share to you some of the items that made my heart skip a bit for this month. 'Yung gusto ko nang makauwi agad to unbox.
First in the list are these scented candles I bought from PM Sent. I'm actually meaning to try these branded candles for some time now, but yeah, budget knocks. There were locally-made candles naman kasi that can compete with these, but a post from Home Buddies made me click the FB page of this online pasabuy store and voila! Tatlo agad! Hahaha.
On top of that, another budol from the same store held me up with this utensil set. Wait, I'll try to explain. I'm actually searching for some bread knife and teaspoon since early December of last year when I started skipping rice and chose wheat bread instead as part of my regular meal. In fact, these items were in my cart already, but I could not find a seller that offers both. Kaya ayun. Right decision, 'diba?
I found this book in the comment section of this Twitter thread about Sir Jesse's letters to Ms. Aika and VP Leni. The thread is a mixture of funny, heartwarming, and emotional e-mails and handwritten letters from one of the people I admire in terms of public service. Itong book naman daw shows more of his serious side as it compiles some of his speeches and writings in his quest of good governance. My #kakampink heart is still waiting for the set of books I pre-ordered that talks about my Dear President and Martial Law.
I was so curious if the CDs are actually real. Madalas kasi, habol lang yung photos sa album, plus all its inclusions. Thus, the purchase of this cutie CD player. I didn't dare to check if there's a playlist in Spotify or Youtube that caters solely for a specific album. Mas bet ko lang yung feel na galing yung tugtog from the original CD. Considering myself a newbie, I only have the four versions of Formula of Love from Twice's latest comeback, so pare-pareho lang ang music. That lead me to my next story that I'm yet to receive five CDs from their past albums. CD lang talaga ang binili ko, promise. Twice's 4th World Tour DVD is a different one, which might be delivered naman probably by next month.
Aaaaannnnnddd.. last but definitely the best parcel that came to me this month of May are the two versions of Yes, I Am Dahyun photobook that I got from KShoplifter. These were pre-ordered last March pa, so imagine the 2-month waiting period 'dibaaa... These were actually delivered while we're on our way home from Sagada, and that was the longest 11-hour land travel I had in my life (given the fact that 11-hr trip is literally long). Ang malala pa, borlogs na ko pag-uwi so kinabukasan ko pa siya na-open fully.
Dahhyunee celebrated her 24th birthday last May 28 pero ako yung masayang-masaya. Haha.
I would like to mention as well that Dubu also published a Melody Project on the day of her birthday as a gift to her fans. Such a wonderful heart! Watch it here.
.....
Now with all these purchases and more expected deliveries in the coming months, mag-cup noodles na lang po ako in the next few days. Haha.
