Undergoing the initial formation in the seminary does not simply mean intellectual advancement or knowing the technical know-hows of pastoral management. Rather, it involves the formation of the seminarian in the human, intellectual, spiritual, and pastoral dimensions that find their integration in community. Hence, as I grow in the formation, my objective is not simply to pass my academic requirements but a total transformation of myself to become a disciple of Christ. I should not imitate the Pharisees, whom Jesus labeled "hypocrites". He likens them to tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but are nothing but bones deep within.
As a priest-in-process, I am challenged to submit myself to the formation process wholly and entirely. I must develop a clean heart and mind that are set on God and his love. True goodness comes from a heart that is set on pleasing God, and it is manifested in doing what is right and necessary even when no one is looking, in being compassionate, and in doing acts of charity towards our neighbor.
