PASAY CITY, June 30 -- Senator Christopher "Bong" Go encouraged workers to support the government's vaccine rollout by receiving their doses once they are eligible during an activity organized for the workers of the Edwin Andrews Air Base Golf Club in Zamboanga City on Saturday, June 26.

"Unti-unti na pong dumarating ang mga bakunang ating pinaghirapan. 'Pag nandiriyan na kayo sa priority list, magpabakuna na kaagad kayo. Huwag kayong matakot sa bakuna," Go began in a video message.

"Ang bakuna ang susi at solusyon para tayo ay makabalik sa ating normal na pamumuhay katulad noon kung saan nayayakap natin ang ating kapwa Pilipino. Napaka-importante ma-attain natin 'yung herd immunity sa community level ngayong taon para hindi na lumubha at kumalat lalo ang sakit na COVID-19," he stressed.

His outreach team provided meals, food packs, vitamins, masks and face shields to a total of 158 beneficiaries at an open-air venue. The distribution was conducted in small batches and under strict adherence to other government-issued health and safety protocols.

Moreover, selected beneficiaries were given bicycles for their commuting needs while some received new pairs of shoes. Other workers were provided computer tablets to help their children carry out their blended learning activities in the safety of their own homes.

In addition, concerned national agencies also participated in the activity as part of the government's commitment to help ordinary workers struggling amid the pandemic.

Personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided each beneficiary with financial assistance in a separate distribution. The Department of Agriculture distributed seedlings while the Department of Health handed out additional masks and vitamins.

Furthermore, the Department of Labor and Employment and the Department Trade and Industry conducted assessments for their employment and livelihood programs, respectively.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the Land Transportation Office, in turn, offered scholarships and free theoretical driving courses, respectively.

"Thank you, Mr. President. Maraming, maraming salamat po sa tulong na ibinigay niyo sa amin. Kay Kuya Bong Go din, thank you so much sa lahat ng inabot niyo. Magiging sobrang laking tulong po ng iyong computer tablet sa aking anak at sa edukasyon niya," said Dearly Macalisang, a beneficiary.

The Senator, who also serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, offered further assistance to beneficiaries who may need medical attention as he encouraged them to visit the Malasakit Center at the Zamboanga City Medical Center where they may conveniently avail of government medical assistance.

The center is a one-stop shop which houses desk representatives from the DOH, DSWD, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. The Malasakit Centers program has served more than two million patients nationwide. There are now 122 Malasakit Centers in the country, with the latest one personally opened by Go at the Masbate Provincial Hospital in Masbate City on Monday, June 28.

To improve the delivery of medical services, Go previously supported the funding for the construction of a new two-storey hospital building at the Camp Navarro General Hospital at the Philippine Navy's Naval Station Romulo Espaldon in Barangay Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City.

Ending his remarks, the Senator recognized and thanked various public officials and members of the armed forces for their untiring service amid the pandemic. Among those present during the activity were 2nd District Representative Manuel Jose Dalipe; Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar; Councilors John Dalipe, Jimmy Villaflores and Khymer Olaso; Zamboanga Golf Club President Atty. Eldon Elumba; and Caddies' Association President Francisco Paita.

He also acknowledged Major General Nestor Rayos, Air Combat Command (ACC) Commander; MGen. Marcelino Tibayan, ACC former Commander; Brigadier General Elpidio Talja, ACC Deputy Commander; Colonel Ramon Dioso, ACC Chief Of Command Staff; Col. Dennis Estrella, Wing Commander of the Tactical Operation Wing Western Mindanao (TOWESTMIN); Col. Mario San Pedro, TOWESTMIN Deputy Wing Commander; Col. Nobel Eumar Abarra, TOWESTMIN Director For Operations; Lieutenant Colonel Mak Shwen Caringal, Group Commander of the 530th Air Base Group; and Major Wilfrido Mangubat, Deputy Group Commander, among others.

Last April 15, Go's team provided aid to hundreds of musicians and other displaced entertainers during an activity at the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College. (OSBG)
