PASAY CITY, June 30 -- On Monday, June 28, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go personally joined the inauguration of a new maritime vessel known as MV Masbate City in an event at the Masbate Provincial Capitol. Go took this opportunity to recognize the maritime sector and its role in the country's development.
As the maritime industry plays a crucial role in the country's economy, Senator Go highlighted the importance of the new RORO (roll-on, roll-off) vessel owned by Kho Shipping Lines to help decongest the ports of Allen, Samar and Matnog, Sorsogon.
In addition, the MV Masbate City is the first to ply the route via Masbate Port to Batangas City Port, and vice versa. This will be beneficial to passengers as it will be the shortest way for those coming from the southern Philippines via Cebu going to Luzon.
The said vessel has a size of 2,434 gross tonnage and a capacity of 1,742 net tonnage. It can carry 800 passengers, 24 10-wheeler trucks or 24 buses and six small cars.
"Salamat sa pamilya Kho, Governor Antonio Kho, Vice Mayor Olga "Ara" Kho, Congresswoman Elisa Kho, Congressman Wilton Kho. Maraming salamat po sa inyong walang sawang tulong sa taumbayan at suporta sa amin ni Pangulong Duterte," Go expressed in his delivered speech.
Senator Go also conveyed his appreciation towards the maritime workers who continue to work diligently in the shipping and transportation industry, even at the height of the global pandemic. He, then, reassured that the government will continue to boost economic opportunities all over the country despite the ongoing pandemic.
The Senator expressed that he is certain that the said vessel will further elevate the economic situation in the region and its surrounding areas by supporting more commercial and industrial activities.
Furthermore, Go shared that together with President Rodrigo Duterte, they will continue to support similar initiatives that will create a ripple effect on the country's economy and boost the quality of life of Filipinos.
"Patuloy lang po tayong magtatrabaho at magseserbisyo tungo sa pagbibigay ng mas maginhawa at komportableng buhay para sa bawat Pilipino," he said.
As part of the Senator's commitment to help various sectors recover from the adverse impact caused by the global pandemic, Go advised the public that his office is always ready to respond and address their concerns.
As the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Go reminded the public to strictly adhere to the health preventive measures, such as frequent washing of hands, maintaining social distance, wearing masks and face shields when in public, and avoiding unnecessary travels, to prevent the further spread of the virus.
He, then, offered to help locals who are in need of medical attention. Go also encouraged them to visit the newly opened Malasakit Center at Masbate Provincial Hospital as part of his commitment to improve access to health care services.
Continuing his remarks, he personally thanked the frontliners for sacrificing and risking their lives to save millions of Filipinos at this time of health crisis.
Go, then, recognized the efforts of the local government officials who continue to support their constituents to help them recover, especially during times of crisis. Among the officials were Representative Elisa Kho, Representative Wilton Kho, Governor Antonio Kho, Vice Governor Olga "Ara" Kho, Mayor Rowena Tuasan, and many others.
I will leave my fate to God, to the Dutertes… And of course to the Filipino people… kayo po ang nagbigay sa amin ng pagkakataon, utang na loob po namin ito sa inyo," he added. (OSBG)
