QUEZON CITY, June 30 -- The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) on Wednesday launched an in-depth forum to better raise public awareness on the government's housing policies and programs and actively engage stakeholders.

The talk show, dubbed "Kapihan sa DHSUD: Housing Matters" features a free-flowing conversation among guest speakers and participating stakeholders, including the general public

DHSUD Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario, in his remarks, expressed hope that the talk show will serve as another platform for the new department to disseminate information, foster cooperation and partnership with the media and other key players in the sector.

"May this regular engagement and dialogue on issues and concerns lead to collaborative and concrete steps for the benefit and improvement of the housing and urban development sector's performance," the housing czar stressed.

Joining him at the launching were Undersecretaries Marylin Pintor, Meynardo Sabili and Zyril Carlos, as well as Assistant Secretaries Leira Buan and Avelino Tolentino III, who hosted the program along with Atty. Cristine Bello of DHSUD's Legal Service. Assistant Secretary Melissa Aradanas participated via Zoom video conference.

Attendees who joined the key event via video conference were Human Settlements and Adjudication Commission Commissioner Director III Atty. Art Dublado on behalf of HSAC Commissioner Felix Exconde, Social Housing Finance Corporation President Arnolfo Ricardo Cabling and National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation President Carlo Luis Rabat.

Pag-IBIG Fund Chief Executive Officer Acmad Rizaldy Moti and National Housing Authority Assistant General Manager Victor Balba, meanwhile, sent video messages congratulating DHSUD on the launch of the "Kapihan."

Heads of the Department's partner-developers, namely Subdivision and Housing Developers Association National Chairperson Rosie Tsai and National President May Rodriguez, Organization of Socialized and Economic Housing Developers of the Philippines Chairman Marcelino Mendoza, National Real Estate Association Chair-Emerita Marissa del Mar and Real Estate Brokers Association of the Philippines Inc National President Benevici Castro likewise took part in the event via online along with some members of the media.

KAPIHAN SA DHSUD: Aimed at raising public awareness on the government's housing policies and programs while at the same time boosting engagements with stakeholders, DHSUD rolled out "Kapihan sa DHSUD" on Wednesday led by Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario (third from right). Joining him at the event were Undersecretaries Marylin Pintor, Meynardo Sabili and Zyril Carlos, as well as Assistant Secretaries Leira Buan and Avelino Tolentino III.

The monthly forum, spearheaded by DHSUD's Public Assistance Service-Communications Development and Media Relations Division, was conceptualized upon the directive of Undersecretary Pintor on the back of growing clamor from DHSUD's partner-developers for an interactive forum with the department.

The talkshow's debut episode focused on the relevance of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan in local development, with DHSUD Environmental, Land Use and Urban Planning Development Bureau Director Atty. Nora Diaz being the guest speaker.

In line with DHSUD's health and safety protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the forum, which will have ten episodes this year, uses a blended approach of both virtual and, to a limited capacity, physical attendance of participants.

Among the topics to be discussed in the upcoming episodes are the establishment of Housing One-Stop Processing Centers, election and delinquency issues of homeowners' association, as well as future projects for informal settler families.

"Kapihan" will highlight a mix of panelists and resource speakers featuring officials from DHSUD's bureaus and representatives from key shelter agencies, partner-developers and real estate practitioners, as well as experts from other government agencies, lawmakers and members of the media.

Episodes can be viewed live via Zoom and the Department's official Facebook page and YouTube channel (DHSUDgovph). (DHSUD)
