Community Relations Department of Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation spearheaded the 3-day Handicraft Enhancement Training on June 23-25, 2021 at the Taganito Fitness Gym Training Center, Claver, Surigao del Norte as part of the Mamanwa Binayloay Project, which seeks to encourage our assisted Mamanwa tribe to culturally preserve their way of life and to be productive through their local products.
The first day of the training is all about the Entrepreneurial Awareness lead by Ms.Emalyn Yamilo
from DTI Surigao in order to motivate them to develop entrepreneurial skills and business ideas and to eventually develop their own business ventures.
On the other hand, Mr. Jose Almar Joy Tibay, a certified accountant and entrepreneur shared his
knowledge as to how the products would be properly priced that is worthy of the produced native handicrafts. While the rest of the days were focused on developing new techniques and refining the quality of their products in order to widen their marketing access. Simple tools were also provided to the handicraft makers to contribute in the enhancement of their products.
According to DJ Alipao of the MLGU-Claver Local Enterprise Office, "the products are of good quality and I'm sure the people of Claver will patronize the native products in line with the No Plastic Policy of Claver. This will be another "Garbo Nan Clavernon." He assured, "We will display the finished product at Claver Suites hotel and at the public market entrance. The purpose is to promote and information to the Community that the products are available in Claver."
This Mamanwa Binayloay Project is funded by the Social Development and Management Program
of THPAL for the Indigenous Peoples residing in Claver. Through the project, the Mamanwas came
to understand that it is not just making products for their livelihood but this is also geared towards preserving their culture and providing solutions of sustaining the source of their materials by caring for the environment.
The activity also coincides with the Environment Month celebration this month of June with the theme, "Sama-samang Pagkilos, Sama-samang paghilom: Ikaw, Ako, Tayo ang Kalikasan!
