The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU)  inaugurated its P10 million worth College of Medicine building yesterday afternoon inside the WMSU Compound.

The said building is fully equipped with a library, pathology laboratory, classrooms, and a hospital setting room with equipments.

Dr. Prospero De Vera III, Commission on Higher Education Chairperson said, "We are not putting money just to produce doctors here. We need to produce very good doctors and medical programs."

This is the first public medical school in Zamboanga City led by its dean Dr. Ma. Cecilia Cuaresma Cruz with 12 local doctors as faculty with different specializations.

Cuaresma said, "We mold physicians to be primary care physicians that will serve the citizenry of Mindanao. Malapit sa puso ng mga mahihirap."

The school of medicine will open on August 16, with 50 pioneer students.

Commission on Higher Education Chairperson, Dr. Prospero De Vera III graced the occasion, WMSU top officials, city officials, and city health officer Dr. Dulce Miravite.
