MANILA, July 5 -- As part of the Bureau of Customs' (BOC) drive to combat the proliferation of counterfeit items, the Port of Manila on July 03, 2021 conducted a condemnation activity in Meycauayan Bulacan.

Consisting of items seized by the  Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) of the Bureau's Intelligence Group, with an estimated value of Php 2 Billion, counterfeit items bearing the brands NIKE, VANS, ADIDAS, JORDAN, HELLO KITTY, NEW BALANCE, VICTORIA'S SECRET, LACOSTE, NBA, GUCCI, TRIBAL, JAG, FILA, SUPREME, PUMA, MICKEY MOUSE, WRANGLER, CETAPHIL, NIVEA, LOUIS VUITTON, BULGARI, TOMMY, CHAMPION, COOL WATER, JO MALONE, CLINIQUE, GLUTAMAX, JBL, DOVE, JERGENS, and DIOR were destoyed through crushing and shredding.

The event was attended by Port of Manila  Deputy Collector for Operations Atty Liza Sebastian, Auction and Cargo Disposal Division Chief (ACDD) Atty Enrico Turingan III, Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) Chief Dominic Garcia, members of the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) and representatives from the National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights (NCIPR) as well as representatives from the various brand owners.

In his statement POM District Collector Vargas stressed the commitment of the Bureau against the proliferation of counterfeit and fake products. The District Collector further warned the public to be wary of using counterfeit products as they may have adverse side effects; lotions, perfumes even electronic products that are substandard.

As the Bureau strengthens its drive against counterfeit goods, the Port of Manila and IG Intellectual Property Rights Division under the leadership of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, remains committed to protect the public and brand owners from the menace of counterfeit trade. (BOC)
