PASAY CITY -- Bong Go sends aid to hundreds of indigent residents of Calumpit, Bulacan as he assures them of continuing gov't assistance amid the pandemic

Senator Christopher "Bong" Go showed his support for the poor and indigent residents in Calumpit, Bulacan as his staff organized an aid activity to distribute assistance to hundreds of beneficiaries.

Go's team facilitated the distribution activity at Calumpit Sports Complex on July 2, Friday, while they strictly implemented safety and health protocols. They grouped the 750 recipients into smaller batches per day to ensure the efficiency of the distribution and to safeguard the well-being of everyone.

During the distribution activity, the recipients received meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins from Go's staff. In his video message, Go reminded them to take sufficient precautions and take care of their health everyday as added protection against COVID-19.

Moreover, some beneficiaries were given bicycles while others received new pairs of shoes from Go's team.

Go, an advocate for improved access to quality education, sent computer tablets to some recipients to give their children access to educational materials as they pursue their schooling under the blended learning set-up implemented in schools.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development granted each beneficiary with financial assistance to further support their daily needs.

One of the beneficiaries, Gerardo Caparas Lacson, in an interview, conveyed his gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte, Go and other government agencies for the assistance he received.

"Malaking tulong po sa amin 'yun (assistance). Napakalaking tulong po. Senador Bong Go, maraming salamat po sa inyong binigay na tulong sa aming pamilya, lalu na po sa mahal na Pangulong Duterte, sa mga binigay n'yong tulong sa amin," Lacson said.

As he continues to push for more convenient access to healthcare services, Senator Go offered additional assistance to the beneficiaries who may need medical assistance and encouraged them to visit the nearest Malasakit Center in Bulacan Medical Center in Malolos City or Rogaciano M. Mercado Memorial Hospital in Sta. Maria town where government agencies, such as DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, can assist them reduce their hospital bills to the lowest amount possible.

Go initiated the first Malasakit Center in 2018 to help streamline the provision of medical assistance from the government and make it more convenient to access, especially for poor and indigent patients.

To date, there are 125 Malasakit Centers that have assisted over two million Filipinos nationwide.

As their well-being is one of the prime concerns amid the ongoing pandemic, Go also encouraged beneficiaries to get vaccinated to safeguard them against the virus. He, then, reassured that the government is continuously rolling out vaccines to economic frontliners, including transport and market workers under the A4 category and, eventually, indigents under the A5 category.

"Huwag po kayo matakot sa bakuna. Ang bakuna ang solusyon upang malampasan ang pandemyang ito at ang susi para makabalik tayo sa normal na pamumuhay. Para maproteksyunan kayo at ang pamilya ninyo, magpabakuna na po kayo at huwag na mag-alinlangan pa. Magtiwala po tayo sa bakuna at sa gobyernong inuuna palagi ang kapakanan ninyo," Go assured.

Go, then, mentioned numerous infrastructure projects that aim to support the economic advancement of Calumpit, such as the construction of slope concrete river walls along Barangays Meysulao, Meyto, Bulusan, Sta. Lucia, and many others. He helped push for funding for these projects as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance.

The Senator concluded his message by recognizing Representative Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado, Governor Daniel Fernando, Vice Governor Willy Sy-Alvarado, Mayor Jessie De Jesus, Vice Mayor Victor de Belen, and other local government officials for their untiring service to their community amid the global pandemic.

"Kami ni Pangulong Duterte, narito lang po at handang magserbisyo sa abot ng aming makakaya. Mga kababayan ko, kaunting tiis lang po, magtulungan lang tayo, malalampasan rin natin ito bilang nagkakaisang mamamayang Pilipino." he ended.

On June 22, Go and his team distributed similar assistance to hundreds of disadvantaged recipients in Calumpit as part of the Senator's dedication to help in the recovery of communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
