TOKYO—Carlos Yulo missed the men's floor exercise—his pet event—finals on Saturday night in men's artistic gymnastics competitions of the Tokyo Olympics at the Ariyake Gymnasium.

Yulo, the floor exercise champion in the 2019 world championship in Stuttgart, Germany, was erratic in his routine marred with poor landings and missteps.

He placed 44th in a field of 64 following a 13.566 score, outside the Top 8 that would make it to the finals in the apparatus. Israel's Artem Dolgopyat led the field with a 15.2, followed by the 15.066 of Russia's Nikita Nagornyy, whom Yulo was keeping an eye on.

The Filipino, however, qualified in the finals of the vault after finishing sixth with a 14.712 score.
