QUEZON CITY, July 4 -- Call it beginner's luck, but a newly organized farmers' group in Nabua, Camarines Sur did hit a jackpot of sort when it was selected as one of the beneficiaries of a bevy of support services aimed at helping it stand on its own at its early stage of existence.
The Malawag Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Farmers Association (MARBFA) was gifted recently with two units of seven-horsepower hand tractors, P100,000-worth of farm inputs – 15 bags of complete fertilizer, 35 bags of urea fertilizer and assorted herbicides and insecticides courtesy of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
DAR-Camarines Sur II provincial agrarian reform program officer Gay Labad said the hand tractors and farm inputs are intended to give the MARBFA something to start with for its fledgling business – rental of farm machineries and farm inputs trading.
"Hopefully, these hand tractors and farm inputs will help create more opportunities, generate additional income and make your association more resilient as it faces new challenges ahead," Labad said during the ceremonial turnover rites at the Barangay Malawag Hall.
Camarines Sur II assistant provincial agrarian reform program officer Ricardo Garcia said: "We will be happy seeing the hand tractors muddy and dirty because it means you are making use of them for your rental business."
Besides Garcia, others who served as witnesses to the turnover of the hand tractors and farm inputs were Support to Operations Division chief Rene Bachos, Nabua municipal agrarian reform program officer Luzviminda Solomo and staff.
Sonny Balatong, member of the MARBFA board of directors, accepted the support services on behalf of the association even as he expressed his gratitude to the DAR for the assistance extended to them.
Balatong said he and his fellow board members had already formulated policies and systems and procedures for the renting out of the equipment and marketing of farm inputs. (DAR)
