Rich Guinitaran drained big buckets as Pagadian dropped the upset axe on powerhouse JPS Zamboanga City, 82-68, in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Leg on Tuesday at the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Gymnasium in Ipil.

Zamboanga rallied from as many as 13 points down to threaten by only three points on Jaypee Belencions triple four minutes into the fourth quarter.

But Guinitaran had all the answers with him.

Guinitaran, a former Centro Escolar University standout who transferred to Arellano University late last year, scored eight straight points he capped with a putback off Mark Benitez's miss to restore Pagadian's lead to 11 with 1:51 left.

"What do you expect? Rich is one of my main men," Explorers head coach Harold Sta. Cruz said. "Rich is a very versatile player and anytime he'll deliver."

Guinitaran was ultra-efficient with 26 points—on a hot 8-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-6 from behind the arc—to go with five rebounds and five assists for the Explorers who improved to 2-0 won-lost.

Keanu Caballero flirted with a triple-double of 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Big men Gabby Espinas and Jerwin Gaco paced JPS (1-1) with 14 and 11 points, respectively, with Espinas adding 11 rebounds.

Playmaker Fran Yu did not play for Zamboanga due to a stiff neck, while Gino Jumao-as appeared to hurt his right knee after a collision down low only two minutes into the game.

Tuesday's second game between Jumbo Plastic-Basilan and Petra Cement-Roxas ame, meanwhile, was canceled because of the gym's slippery floor.

The region has been experiencing incessant rains in the last several days causing the gym floor to be damped and slippery.
