Climate change, global warming, extinction of animals in 'Lolong'
By Cynthia Montojo
"He was found in our country so we used that but basically, it's not about that. It's not just about crocodiles… it's more on what's happening around us," actor, singer Ruru Madrid has clarified that GMA's upcoming action-adventure series "Lolong" is not about the world's largest crocodile, which has the same name.
In an online interview with the press the Kapuso actor said they just used the name for the title to give honor to the late crocodile.
"We're just using the word crocodile but there's a deeper meaning to it," he added.
Executive producer Jaypril Jaring backed Ruru's statement, saying that "no part of the story is similar to the original Lolong story."
"We are also the ones harming nature so the show will give a good lesson to viewers to help the world in general," said Arra San Agustin.
"This will spread awareness that environment should be taken care of because like what they say, people and nature are one," said Shaira Diaz.
Ruru is set to star alongside Dakila, a 22-feet animatronic crocodile, in GMA's upcoming action-adventure series "Lolong." The premiere date is yet to be announced.
Lolong, the world's largest crocodile in captivity, passed away in 2013
There's no doubt that Ruru Madrid looks physically ready for "Lolong," but preparing himself mentally is another matter altogether.
Ruru has prepared his body first when he was informed of the character he will play.
"As artists, we want to be fit enough for the role that the network gives us because we want to repay their trust, I know it's gonna be hard 'cause there are a lot of fight scenes ," he said.
Ruru, has sacrificed a lot of his food cravings to maintain his body and he also makes sure to work out daily while in quarantine before the lock-in taping.
Amid current setup due to ongoing pandemic, however, Ruru said the biggest challenge he faced was mentally preparing himself for the role.
"This is the first time that I'll be working for a long time during pandemic without going home," he said… "we're locked-in, homesick, you'll get sad."
"You can use it for the scenes but most of the time, you're just down so you need to also prepare yourself for that…that's harder than physical training," he added.
