Jack Joseph Dessin, 38, of Mantua, Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States was recently arrested by the United States Park Police. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (automobile) and destruction of government property.

Aside from Mantua, Dessin has lived in other parts of New Jersey including Woodbury and Wenonah. Amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020, he announced his campaign for governor of New Jersey.

"With the literal decay of our laws in the last few months, I believe it is time for New Jersey to go in an entirely 'NEW RADICAL' direction leaving many of our old laws in our past within the VERY FIRST 100 DAYS!!!" Dessin wrote in his website where he self-publishes a science fiction book. He never made it onto the ballot in November 2020.

At around 7:30 p.m. on July 3, 2021, Dessin allegedly crashed his blue Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle (SUV) into the barrier of the Washington Monument, an obelisk within the National Mall in Washington, D.C., USA. He missed several people walking on the sidewalk near the landmark that night and no one was injured aside from him, according to the U.S. Park Police.

.

After the crash, Dessin was pulled out of his Ford Explorer by Michael Vachon, who lives near the Washington Monument. Vachon told NBC Washington that when he asked Dessin what his problem was, the Mantua resident said he was dying.

"He was like, 'The government is trying to kill me,'" Vachon said of Dessin. "I'm like, 'The government is not trying to kill you. Lie down.'"

When a bystander asked Dessin about his motive, he allegedly said expletives about Google, Facebook and Twitter. When he was campaigning for governor of New Jersey in 2020, he said wanted the government to remove race identification questions from all government documents, pardon all non-violent offenders, ask schools to create separate leagues for transgender students and provide every citizen with their own free website.

An American flag was hanging from the passenger side door of Dessin's Ford Explorer, which was adorned with stickers and signs containing advertisements for his website. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
