Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco Salazar is urging the Zamboangueno Olympians to bring home the gold medal during the Olympic games now being conducted in Tokyo, Japan.

Salazar said, "We expect them to bring home the gold." (referring to Marcial and Diaz)

The Mayor appeals for prayers not only for the two Zamboanguenos but for the entire Philippine Team. Let us pray that the Lord will give them the strength, courage and perseverance. We pray for God Almighty to guide them.

She added, the City is blessed to have Eumir carry the Philippine flag and Hidilyn represent Zamboanga City.

The mayor described Eumir and Hidilyn as models of inspiration not only to their fellow Zamboanguenos but to the entire country for their phenomenal success, achieved through hardwork, dedication, discipline and above all, their sacrifices.

Eumir Felix Marcial will be playing for boxing while Hidilyn Diaz for weightlifting.

Both Marcial and Diaz are scheduled to play on July 26. Marcial for the men's middleweight boxing while Diaz foe women's weightlifting 55kg category.

Diaz is a veteran Olympian, she already competed during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2012 London Olympics, and during the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics she bagged the silver medal for the Philippines. (R.G Antonet Go, photo courtesy of Rappler)
