THE National Electronic Sports Federation of the Philippines (NESFP) will stage on July 30 and August 1 the Official Philippine Qualifiers for the biggest esports title on the collegiate Level—The Cyberathlete Collegiate Mobile Legends (CCML) Tournament Series—that offers a grand prize pool of USD$ 250,000 (P12.3 million).
Cyberathlete is the oldest Esports company which will celebrate its 25th year in 2022 and the tournament serves as the key culminating event for a spectacular celebration.
KALARO, a single portal to a wide range of virtual features and services, will be the official tournament platform of the Philippine qualifiers.
"This is one of the highlight events of the esports community—not only in the Philippines, but also globally," said Ramon "Tats" Suzara, president of NESFP, one of Cyberathlete's qualifying country partners that include Singapore's Cybersports and Online Gaming Association, Singapore Esports Association, E-Stars Nation (Malaysia), National and Ligagame Esports (Indonesia).
NESFP Secretary General Alvin Juban said the qualifiers feature teams composed of players aged 18 or older who are enrolled in tertiary education institutions or Insiitutes of higher learning.
"To guarantee maximum support from their schools or colleges, the teams have as handlers their teachers," Juban said. "The very essence of education is a must for the conduct of this competition."
The Singapore-based esports tournament organizer Cyberathlete launched the series by hosting the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) tournament for college-level players.
The four-month series qualifiers that wraps up in August will determine the four top-ranked Southeast Asian teams which will compete for the $250,000 against other collegiate squads from around the world in the World Collegiate Finals in December 2022.
"We are glad to have the Philippines as support because we do see huge opportunities and potential in the esports market," Christa Yeo, Vice President for Marketing and Public Relations of Cyberathlete, told Sunday's virtual news conference.
Joining Suzara, Juban and Valencia in the online press conference were KALARO executives Marvin Alberto and Jun Lasco.
