Jai Marcellous Rideau, 34, of Palmetto, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, United States has been arrested by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office. He was charged with attempted first-degree feticide, domestic abuse battery by strangulation of a pregnant victim with a dangerous weapon and armed bobbery.
Rideau is accused of stealing an Apple Watch and money from a pregnant woman in Palmetto on July 17, 2021. He also allegedly choked her, punched her in the stomach and beat her with a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe.
When the victim tried to leave, Rideau became angry and beat her with the PVC pipe, according to investigators. He also allegedly bit her in the face after she was able to get away and call 911.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested Rideau. He was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail without further incident and his bond was revoked.

This was not the first time Rideau was arrested. He was a resident of Opelousas, St. Landry Parish when the Louisiana State Police arrested him on September 17, 2018 for speeding, suspended driver's license, illegal conceal carrying of a handgun, possession of firearm in presence of controlled dangerous substance (CDS) and possession of schedule I drugs with intent to distribute.
On April 21, 2021, St. Landry Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested Rideau for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, aggravated assault, domestic abuse battery with child endangerment and criminal damage to property. He was still an Opelousas resident at the time.
Opelousas is the parish seat of St. Landry Parish, which was created in 1807. Palmetto is part of the Opelousas-Eunice Micropolitan Statistical Area.
