Eight crew members of a sunken cargo vessel, was rescued by the members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Semirara sub-station in Caluya, Antique on Tuesday this week.
The MB Roxane-L which came from Barangay Caminawit, Mindoro, capsized three nautical miles west of Barangay Semirara, said PCG Antique deputy station commander, Senior Chief Petty Officer Alan Mandado.
Due to strong water current in the area, the cargo vessel sunk and was supposed to transport 100 sacks of rice, 100 sacks of feeds, and other goods to Barangay Semirara, Caluya in the province.
Since July 16, the province is tormented by continuous rains due to southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon "Fabian".
According to Mandado the cargo ship left Barangay Caminawit, Mindoro around 2:45 p.m. of July 20, but experienced engine trouble in the vicinity of Barangay Semirara. Due to its damage and the strong water current and downpour, the ship eventually submerged.
Mandado also added that as of now, there were no cargoes retrieved yet from the ill-fated ship.
