THE Philippine Sports Commission- Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization (PSC-PHINADO) in collaboration with the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) recently conducted a virtual seminar on Anti-Doping Regulations for Tokyo Olympiad bound Team Philippines.
Dr. Alejandro Pineda, Jr., Head of PHINADO facilitated the webinar which was attended by NSAs officials, coaches, athletes and representatives from 11 sports namely Athletics, Boxing, Golf, Gymnastics, Judo, Rowing, Skating, Shooting, Swimming, Taekwondo and Weightlifting.
Chef de Mission and Philippine Football Federation President Mariano Araneta gave the opening remarks.
Major issues in anti-doping program, including the 2021 Prohibited List, The Code and International Standards, Doping Control Process, Registered Testing Pool and Therapeutic Use Exemptions were tackled and explained by Dr. Pineda.
"Education is the best and most effective tool in disseminating information drive about Anti-Doping," said Dr. Pineda, also a board director in the Southeast Asian Anti-Doping Organization (SEA-RADO).
"The Principle of Strict Liability: YOU, and only YOU, are responsible for what goes into your body," he added.
"Malaking bagay po ang ganitong seminar para aware po kami sa mga dapat naming iwasan na kainin at inuming supplement. Kailangan po talagang alam namin na hindi kami dapat basta umiinom lang ng vitamins at supplement without consulting our coaches, officials at expert sa PHINADO," said skateboarding champion Margilyn Didal, one of 17 athletes who qualified to Tokyo Olympics set July 23 to August 8.
Aside from Didal, the Philippine pride out to end the gold-medal drought are 2016 Rio Olympics weightlifting silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz and Elreen Ando; pole vaulter EJ Obiena; gymnast Carlo Yulo; boxers Eumir Marcial, Irish Magno, Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam; rower Cris Nievarez; taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa; shooter Jayson Valdez; judoka Kiyomi Watanabe,sprinter Kristina Knott and golfers Bianca Pagdanganan, Juvic Pagunsan and reigning US Women's Open champion Yuka Saso.
