Jason Hill, 21, of North City, Saint Louis, Missouri, United States has been arrested in the shooting death of Malachi Maclin, 20, of Florissant, St. Louis County, Missouri. The latter was fatally shot inside Champs Sports, an athletic footwear retailer located on the first floor of the West County Center in Des Peres, St. Louis County.

At around 6:20 p.m. on July 3, 2021, Hill and Maclin got into an altercation inside the store and shots were fired, according to the Des Peres Police Department. The latter was struck and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Following the shooting, the West County Center was closed with some employees and shoppers on lockdown inside the mall. The Des Peres Police Department declared that there was no further threat to the public at around 9:00 p.m.

On July 4, 2021, Hill was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held in the St. Louis County Jail in Clayton, St. Louis County on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

Just before 8:00 p.m. on April 2, 2021, two groups of people who were familiar with one another got into an argument on the second floor of the mall and one of the individuals fired a shot toward the floor. No one was injured and one person was in custody after the shooting.
