Saul Rivera-Montalvo, 20, of Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware, United States has been arrested by the Delaware State Police. He was charged with first-degree robbery, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of disregarding a police officer signal and numerous traffic violations.
At around 8:03 a.m. on June 15, 2021, Rivera-Montalvo allegedly approached a man, 52, who exited his 2012 Nissan Altima parked in the parking lot of Wawa at 4000 North Dupont Highway in New Castle, New Castle County to retrieve an item from the rear seat. According to the Delaware State Police, the victim complied when displayed a knife and demanded the keys to the vehicle.
Without physically injuring the owner of the 2012 Nissan Altima, Rivera-Montalvo fled in the vehicle. He fled again when troopers initiated a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle on June 21, 2021.
The troopers pursued the vehicle but the pursuit was terminated due to reckless driving and concern for public safety. On June 24, 2021, Rivera-Montalvo was identified as a suspect in the theft of a Mazda CX-9 from the Christiana Mall in Christiana, New Castle County.
On June 25, 2021, troopers located Rivera-Montalvo operating the Mazda CX-9. A vehicle pursuit ensued but the pursuit was terminated again due to reckless driving and public safety.
On June 28, 2021, the Wilmington Police Department located the Mazda CX-9 parked while Rivera-Montalvo was in it. He was arrested without incident, arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 in New castle and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington on $55,100 cash bond.
