DUE to the rising number of Covid-19 patients, the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), the country's Covid referral hospital, on Tuesday announced it will temporarily not accept new patients in its emergency room (ER).

In an advisory, the PGH also stressed that suspending the admissions in ER will also help prevent putting other patients and hospital staff at risk of infection.

We already exceeded by over a hundred the allotted 230 Covid-19 patients that were admitted at PGH and most of them are in need of intensive care, high-flow oxygen, and ventilators]," a PGH advisory stated.

Because of this, we will temporarily suspend admission of patients in our Emergency Room]."

The PGH also issued an apology to the public.

In a television interview, PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario said that they are catering to some 300 Covid patients at the moment.

That is PGH's highest number so far, he said.
