The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will open additional mall satellite voter registration sites more than a month left before the registration deadline.

The expanded registration accessibility followed the signing of a memorandum of agreement with Ayala Land Inc. on Monday (Aug. 23).

Comelec chairperson Sheriff Abas said the recent move will raise voter count in the upcoming elections due to the convenience of registering in malls which have bigger spaces.

"Having these malls open for voter registration is a timely initiative, especially as we are in the last phase of registration for the elections. We are grateful to allow more venues that will be more accessible to the public and safer to our registrants," Abas said.

The satellite sites will also attend to individuals who want to reactivate their registration.

The poll body earlier said the target count for additional two million eligible registrants has already been met, bringing the total voter toll to more than 60 million. – Report from Kenneth Paciente/AG-rir
