On August 7, 2021, he was driving a gray sports utility vehicle registered in the name of Jamel Danzy, then 29, of Hammond, Indiana, USA. His brother Emonte was in the backseat while a female passenger was in the front passenger's seat. Chicago Police Department officers including Ella French, then 29, and her male partner, then 39, stopped the car on South Bell Avenue in Chicago over expired plates. During an exchange of gunfire, Emonte allegedly fatally shot French in the head and shot her partner three times using a semi-automatic handgun, which Danzy allegedly gave to him. He fled the scene but was immediately held by residents. (b)
After French's death on August 7, 2021, he and Monte were arrested. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and obstruction of justice. (b)
He was 21 years old when he was arrested on August 7, 2021.
In a bond hearing on August 10, 2021, he and Emonte were ordered to be held without bail. (b)
