LAS VEGAS, Nevada—Five Filipino world champions predict a Manny Pacquiao by stoppage victory over reigning World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Yordenis Ugás at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
"I think Manny is ready for this fight. Ugás has a lot of experience and he's tough. But I think there's a big possibility that the fight won't go the distance because Manny has all the capabilities to do that," World Boxing Council bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr., told BusinessMirror upon his arrival at the MGM Grand Hotel on Thursday.
"He's very easy to hit, so I think Senator Manny will get Ugás by a ninth-round technical knockout win," International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas said. "The style of Ugás is tailor fit for the senator. If Pacquiao is not a volume puncher, maybe Ugas could last the distance. But unfortunately for him, he's not."
World Boxing Organization bantamweight king Johnriel Casimero, who is coming from a split decision victory over Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux last week in Carson City, said Pacquiao will stop Ugás in the fourth round.
"He's not on the level of Pacquiao, he's just one fourth of Pacquiao," Casimero said.
IBF minimumweight titlist Rene Mark Cuarto and WBA minimumweight champion Victorio Saludar also see a short night for the fighting senator and if Ugás lasts 12 rounds, he'd turn out as a punching bag.
Cuarto said Ugás will yield by the eighth or ninth round to Pacquiao's power-packed quick punches.
"We studied on YouTube the possible outcome of the fight, and we felt Ugás will just surrender or be knocked out," Cuarto said.
Saludar, on the other hand, said Ugás could run and avoid punches by going the distance. But if he engages, he'll knocked out anytime.
"Senator Manny's condition is really great and Ugás can be taken out anytime if he goes toe-to-toe," Saludar said. "I haven't seen the senator's condition like this before."
