Brianna Nicole Page of Hickory, North Carolina, United States has passed away. She was 17.

Page worked at Bojangles, a chain of fast food restaurants Jack Fulk and Richard Thomas founded in 1977 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her family did not have a car so she walked to work almost 2 kilometers every day.

On July 31, 2021, Page was walking to work when she was struck along 20th Street NE in Hickory by Cesar Lozano-Mendoza, 18. The vehicle he was driving was believed to be a gray 2006-2007 Chrysler 300.

The headlight and mirror of the vehicle's front driver's side were damaged. Lozano-Mendoza fled before the Hickory Police Department officers responded to the scene at around 5:30 a.m. and pronounced Page dead at the scene.

One of Page's friends was Alexus Rogers. He told WSOC-TV that she was "the sweetest, sweetest little girl."

"She walked to work every, single day," Rogers said of Page. "She helped her momma pay her rent, her bills."

On August 1, 2021, the Hickory Police Department announced that Lozano-Mendoza had turned himself in. Charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in injury or death and misdemeanor for traveling left of center, he was booked at the Catawba County Jail in Newton, North Carolina under a $15,000 secured bond.
