MANDALUYONG CITY -- Since the pandemic started in March 2020, many of our fellow Filipinos were immensely affected by COVID-19, causing millions to lose their jobs, mostly countrymen who solely rely on tourism, like the kutseros in Intramuros.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Richard Gordon, a former Department of Tourism secretary, mobilized PRC Manila Chapter to provide food assistance to 50 kutseros who lost their source of livelihood as tourism declined due to the pandemic.

According to PRC Manila Chapter Administrator Crisanta Cayetano, "Each Kutsero will receive one sack of 25kg or rice, a grocery package, and a hygiene kit to support their daily needs."

"Malapit sa akin ang mga kutsero sa Intramuros dahil isa sila sa mga nagpapalago ng tourism sa ating bansa. Mahalagang mabigyan ng tulong ang mga nawalan ng hanap buhay sa panahon ng pandemya," Gordon said.

PRC also plans to vaccinate the unvaccinated kutseros in Intramuros to protect them from COVID-19.

PRC encourages everyone to get vaccinated as the fight against Covid-19 is far from over until everyone is safe and vaccinated. (Philippine Red Cross)
