Eddison Garcia-Guzman, 44, of California, United States has been arrested by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault.
At around 5:30 p.m. on May 30, 2021, a girl, 16, told detectives she was thumbing for a ride when Garcia-Guzman picked her up at Quimby Road and Ruby Avenue near Evergreen Valley High School in San Jose, California. She said they went to a nearby liquor store to buy alcohol and he later drove to the site at Quimby and Bishop Place.
After physically and sexually assaulting the teenage hitchhiker, Garcia-Guzman left her stranded on the side of the roadway, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. The detective assigned to the case canvassed local liquor stores and reviewed security footage, leading to identifying Garcia-Guzman as a potential suspect.
On August 20, 2021, Garcia-Guzman was arrested at Stanford University in Stanford, California. He worked for the university as a cook and a janitor.

However, there is no record of Garcia-Guzman being directly employed by Stanford University, according to the school's spokesperson E.J. Miranda. In a statement, Miranda said the school is working to confirm if the cook-janitor may be employed by a third-party contractor.
Garcia-Guzman is being held on $500,000 bail in the Elmwood men's jail in Milpitas, California. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office did not confirm whether or not his alleged sexual assault victim is an Evergreen Valley High School student.
