PASAY CITY -- Following the distribution efforts in the towns of Dumarao, Cuartero, Ivisan, Mambusao, and Pontevedra, Senator Christopher "Bong" had his team conduct another series of relief operations in President Roxas, Tapaz, and Pilar in the province of Capiz on Saturday, August 21.

In his video message during the events conducted at their respective municipal gymnasiums, Senator Go appealed to a total of 4,015 beneficiaries, composed of market vendors and Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association members, to take part in the national vaccination program since they are included in the priority groups according to the guidelines provided by the government.

He likewise urged the local authorities to ensure an efficient vaccination roll-out once doses are delivered to their respective areas. The Senator also asked the LGUs to prioritize the elderly residents as they are more vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus.

"Mga kababayan ko, nandidiyan na po ang bakuna unti-unti. 'Pag nasa priority list na po, magpabakuna na ho kayo para po protektado po kayo. Kung mahal niyo po ang inyong mga pamilya, magpabakuna na po kayo. Huwag ho kayong matakot sa bakuna. Libre po ito." Go appealed.

"Mga kababayan ko, 'pag bakunado po kayo, protektado po kayo. Kung saka-sakali man pong mahawa kayo ng COVID-19 ay maiiwasan po 'yung pagkalala ng sakit na COVID-19 'pag bakunado po kayo," he added.

Go's team carried on with the distribution of relief items, such as meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins. Additionally, some beneficiaries received new pairs of shoes and bicycles.

As part of his pledge to support underprivileged students with their education, Go also gave computer tablets to select essential workers to aid their children to participate better in their classes under the blended learning approach.

The Senator, in his remarks, commended several government agencies for their additional assistance to the market vendors and TODA members.

The Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority each conducted an on-site assessment wherein qualified individuals will receive livelihood support and scholarship grants, respectively.

Fernando Hicole, a 54-year-old TODA member, expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by Go as it would help him sustain his family, especially since public transportation remains limited, saying, "Senator, maraming salamat po sa tulong na inyong pinaabot sa amin. Malaking tulong po ito sa amin lalo na sa aking pamilya. Sana marami pa po kayong matulungan."

As Chair of Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go asked locals of Capiz to prioritize their health and well-being especially amidst the health crisis. He then encouraged those in need of medical assistance to visit Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Roxas City where there is a Malasakit Center.

Since elected as Senator in 2019, Senator Go pushed for the successful passage of Republic Act No. 11463, otherwise known as the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which mandates to help particularly poor and indigent patients to reduce their medical bills by covering various patient services and fees.

As Vice Chair of Senate Committee on Finance, Go has always pushed for measures to support economic recovery in the respective communities as he advocated for several initiatives to improve public service delivery, including the construction of a drainage canal and the conversion of multi-purpose building as a quarantine facility at Brgy. Salong in Tapaz; the acquisition of multi-purpose vehicles in President Roxas; and the concreting of Sta. Fe-San Ramon Provincial Road in Pilar.

Other projects he supported include the improvement of local roads in Jamindan and Sapian; the concreting of various roads in Mambusao, Ma-ayon, Pan-ay, and Pilar; the construction of a multi-purpose building and the improvement of public market in the town of Pontevedra; and the construction of a five-storey building in Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Roxas City.

The Senator then thanked Representatives Fredenil Castro and Emmanuel "Tawi" Billones, Governor Esteban Evan "Nonoy" Contreras Jr., Vice Governor James Magbanua, President Roxas Mayor Receliste Escolin and Vice Mayor Edvil John Alfaro, Tapaz Mayor Roberto "Nonong" Palomar and Vice Mayor Maria Fe Gardose, Pilar Mayor Arnold Perez and Vice Mayor Douijie-jack Cantiller, and many other local leaders for their hard work and unending service to their respective communities during these unprecedented times.

"Binabalanse po ng gobyerno ang lahat, ekonomiya. And, of course, mas importante sa amin ni Pangulong Duterte ang kalusugan at buhay ng bawat Pilipino. Pangalagaan po natin ang ating kalusugan. Pangalagaan po natin ang ating buhay," said Go.

"Magtulungan ho tayo, magbayanihan po tayo at magmalasakit po tayo sa ating kapwa Pilipino. Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat," he ended. (OSBG)
