Manaure Gonzalez-Rea, 36, of Utah, United States has been arrested. He was charged with automobile homicide criminal negligence, theft, failure to remain at an accident involving death, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and reckless driving.

Just after 1:00 a.m. on August 6, 2021, Gonzalez-Rea was driving under the influence when he crashed his Toyota pickup truck head on into a Toyota Corolla, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The truck flipped over on the roadway on Interstate 15 in South Salt Lake, Salt Lake County, Utah.

Angelica Gabrielle "Jelly" Jimenez Dhondup, 26, a passenger in the Corolla, was travelling home from her own wedding. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A passerby driving a pickup stopped to help Gonzalez-Rea. However, Gonzalez-Rea stole the good Samaritan's vehicle.

Shortly after, troopers apprehended Gonzalez-Rea. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail without bail.

Seven hours before the crash, Dhondup and Tenzing Dhondup got married. They have two sons together and they were supposed to adopt a daughter one week after their wedding.

Jelly's niece Marisol Demorst, 20, served as the bridesmaid. The two went out for carne asada fries to celebrate the wedding before the fatal crash.

It was Jelly who was driving the Toyota Corolla while Demorst was in the passenger's seat. The two were both wearing a seat belt and the latter survived.

"Her life was cut short because of someone's stupid mistakes of drinking and driving," The Salt Lake Tribune quoted Demorst as saying of her late aunt. "I'm glad she spent her last living hours talking about the people she loved and I'm very sure that she knows she was loved as well."

Jelly managed to call for help then started to have an asthma attack right after the crash, her older sister Rachael Vigil said. They are members of the Skull Valley Band of the Goshute Tribe.

"She was just excited that she had finally got married to her high school sweetheart," Gephardy Daily quoted Vigil as saying of Jelly. "This is a day that she was looking forward to for over a year. She had to reschedule her marriage because of COVID."
