PASAY CITY -- On Friday, September 24, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go expressed his concern for families who were victims of fire incidents in various areas in Metro Manila as he sent support to help them recover from the devastating events.
In his video message, Go reassured that with the recent enactment of the Republic Act No. 11589, otherwise known as the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act, the bureau is set to improve its capabilities in helping prevent fire-related accidents and injuries.
Go co-authored and co-sponsored the said measure that mandates the BFP to undergo a ten-year modernization program, the components of which include recruitment of more firefighters, provision of specialized trainings, and upgrade and acquisition new fire equipment, among others.
It also directs the BFP to conduct monthly fire prevention campaigns and information drives in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and local government units.
Go's team organized separate relief efforts for a total of 48 families from Brgys. Holy Spirit, Manreza, and Gulod, all in Quezon City; and Brgy. Sta Lucia in Pasig City. Go's personnel implemented necessary safety and health protocols as they conducted the activities at their respective Barangay Halls.
The Senator's team distributed relief items, such as financial assistance, grocery packs, meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins. Moreover, personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development were also present to distribute separate financial assistance.
Additionally, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority assessed potential individuals for their respective livelihood and scholarship programs.
Mark Bryan dela Cerna, 33, expressed in an interview.
Continuing his message, the Senator offered support to any resident in need of medical attention as he encouraged those with health concerns to take advantage of medical assistance offered by the government through the available Malasakit Centers across Metro Manila.
In Quezon City, there are nine centers located at Lung Center of the Philippines, Novaliches District Hospital, Philippine Heart Center, Philippine Children's Medical Center, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, East Avenue Medical Center, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Philippine Orthopedic Center, and National Children's Hospital. Meanwhile, residents from Pasig City may visit Rizal Medical Center.
As Chair of Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go also urged the families to get vaccinated as he reassured them that the government continuously rolls out doses to local government units to ensure that the country will achieve population protection and herd immunity soon.
Importante po protektado kayo," he added.
He then concluded his message by expressing his gratitude towards the local officials of Quezon City and Pasig City for their dedication and untiring service to their communities during these challenging times.
Being the Vice Chair of Senate Committee on Finance, Go extended his support for several infrastructure projects to help improve in the development Metro Manila amid crisis situations.
In Quezon City, he supported the construction of an advanced Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Vertical Expansion of new ER Building in East Avenue Medical City, the rehabilitation of Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center Road Network and Veterans Memorial Medical Center Road Network, construction of several multi-purpose buildings in various barangays, and the construction and improvement of drainage systems in Brgys. Gulod, and Talayan.
Go also supported various projects in Pasig City, such as the improvement of Rizal Medical Center, acquisition of medical equipment for RMC, and the construction of a seven-storey multi-specialty building inside RMC.
(OSBG)
