PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher "Bong" Go on Saturday, September 4, assured Filipinos that there is light at the end of tunnel for as long as they continue doing their part by getting vaccinated and following the mandated health protocols against COVID-19.

In a video message at a relief mission in Sipalay City and Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, Go strongly asserted the need for everyone, including the fully vaccinated, to remain vigilant as a precaution for those who are still at risk and vulnerable.

The Senator's personnel distributed meals, vitamins, masks and face shields to a total of 7,499 beneficiaries from various sectoral groups at the Barangay Gil Montilla covered court in Sipalay City and the People's Activity Center in Hinoba-an. Each activity was held in batches to ensure all health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 were strictly observed.

Selected beneficiaries received new pairs of shoes while some were provided bicycles to improve their access to basic services. Others were given computer tablets so their children can carry out their blended learning activities better while studying at home.

In separate distributions, representatives from various national agencies were also present to offer other forms of aid. The Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance while the Department of Agriculture handed out livelihood assistance and turned over finishing devices to selected recipients.

The Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, on the other hand, conducted on-site assessments to determine qualified beneficiaries for their livelihood and scholarship programs, respectively.

The Senator, who heads the Senate Committee on Health, continued his message encouraging those struggling with pre-existing medical conditions to get the needed care. He offered his assistance and advised them to avail of the services of the Malasakit Center located at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

The center is a one-stop shop which provides convenient access to the medical assistance programs of the relevant government agencies, namely the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office.

"Kung kailangan niyo magpagamot o magpa-opera, lapitan niyo ang aking staff at tutulungan namin kayo o puntahan niyo ang Malasakit Center diyan. Mayroon nang 138 na Malasakit Centers sa buong Pilipinas na tutulong para sa mga pangangailangang medikal ninyo. Inyo ito, para ito sa mga Pilipino," explained Go, who authored the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.

The Senator went on to commend various officials for their efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Negros Occidental. He recognized 6th District Representative Genaro Alvarez Jr.; Governor Eugenio Lacson; Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer; Sipalay City Mayor Maria Lizares and Vice Mayor Oscar Montilla Jr.; and Hinoba-an Mayor Ernesto Estrao and Vice Mayor Jefre Encoy, among others.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go has supported numerous infrastructure initiatives in the province to boost its development and growth.

Among these are the construction of multi-purpose buildings in Calatrava, Salvador Benedicto and Himamaylan City; construction of an auditorium in Bacolod City; construction of a new infectious diseases wing at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City; and road maintenance in the cities of Bacolod and Bago, among others.

His staff also provided relief to thousands of beneficiaries in Cauayan, Salvador Benedicto, Bacolod City, Himamaylan City and Victorias City from September 1 to 3. (OSBG)
