PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher "Bong" Go expressed support for the proposed 2022 budget of the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office as he recognized the vital role it plays in advancing the President's legislative agenda and ensuring the passage of bills critical to addressing the country's needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The proposed budget of the office, along with the Games and Amusements Board and the Philippine Sports Commission, was reviewed and deliberated on by Finance Subcommittee "J" during a budget hearing presided by Sen. Joel Villanueva on Monday, September 27.

In his speech, Go thanked the team behind the PLLO who are working alongside the Senate and House of Representatives by serving as their initial point of contact to the Malacañang Palace, notifying members of Congress about the administration's initiatives, and assisting with the floor activity among others.

"Suportado ko po ang PLLO dahil sa kontribusyon nito sa pag-coordinate at pag-unify ng Ehekutibo at Kongreso sa pagpasa ng iba't ibang importanteng batas na nais isulong ng administrasyon ni Pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte. The PLLO is vital in promoting the Presidential legislative initiatives, policy reforms and development programs by tirelessly working with Congress in making these matters a reality," said Go.

The Senator, who is Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, praised the PLLO for its judicious use of the government's funds amid the current economic climate. He strongly reminded the office and other government agencies to ensure that all laws, rules and regulations relating to the expenditure of funds continue to be strictly observed in order to avoid possible loss or wastage.

"Ako po ay natutuwa dahil nagagamit ng husto ang pondong ipinagkaloob sa ating mga ahensya noong nakaraang taon despite the limited budgetary resources. This year, I am sure that our agencies will likewise utilize the budget prudently and wisely for the benefit of our nation," encouraged Go.

The PLLO has been instrumental in the passage of the Administration's priority measures, including the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, National Academy of Sports Act, Salary Standardization Law of 2019, and Postponement of the 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections Act.

It also assisted in the development of Senate Bill No. 2234 which provides for the establishment of the Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos (DMWOF). Filed in May 2021, the bill was certified as urgent by President Duterte and is co-sponsored by Go in the Senate.

It is the consolidated version of the Senator's earlier bill which aimed to create the Department of Overseas Filipinos and took into consideration inputs from the concerned executive agencies.

If passed, the DMWOF will be responsible for formulating, recommending and implementing policies, plans, programs and guidelines that protect overseas Filipinos, including overseas Filipino workers, as well as promote their interests and resolve issues concerning them in a timely and effective manner. The DMWOF is an important campaign promise of President Duterte. (OSBG)
