PASAY CITY -- To address homelessness in the aftermath of a disaster, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go on Monday, September 27, vowed to push for greater access to affordable housing for low-income households.
In a video message at an activity in Taytay, Rizal, Go stated that he authored and co-sponsored a bill which will create a rental housing subsidy program for dislocated or informal settler families to ensure that they have access to decent housing and basic social services.
The measure, Senate Bill No. 2393, was filed on September 9.
His outreach staff provided financial assistance, food packs, and meals to a total of 28 families at the Sitio Tapayan Elementary School while observing the necessary health protocols. Each beneficiary also received vitamins, masks, and face shields to protect them from the threat of the pandemic.
To address other immediate concerns, selected residents received bicycles for their daily commutes to work while some received new pairs of shoes. Others received computer tablets to help their children access educational materials and continue their studies under the new blended learning approach.
Furthermore, personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development were also present to distribute separate financial assistance as part of an ongoing government initiative to help victims of fires and other disasters.
The senator, who is Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, also offered to assist those seeking medical care. He informed residents that they may conveniently avail of medical assistance from government at their nearest Malasakit Center. The agencies include the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
There are currently 141 Malasakit Centers nationwide, four of which are found in the province, particularly at Antipolo City Hospital System Annex 4, Bagong Cainta Municipal Hospital, Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Hospital in Rodriguez, and Margarito A. Duavit Memorial Hospital in Binangonan.
Go went on to recognize the local officials who continue to serve their constituents in the midst of a public health crisis. Among those present during the activity were Mayor George Gacula II, Vice Mayor Michell Bermundo and members of the council, Punong Barangay Michael Cruz and barangay council members.
As part of his continued commitment to improve the welfare of the residents in Rizal, Go's team previously provided relief to 2,058 typhoon victims in Rodriguez last August 28.
He also has supported numerous infrastructure initiatives in his capacity as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, such as the construction of a new sports complex in Taytay; construction of the Batangas Medical Center Annex in Rodriguez; and construction of the Justice Building in Antipolo City.
Other major projects he supported are the rehabilitation of flood control structures along the upper Marikina River; construction and improvement of a multipurpose building and construction of new roads in Baras; rehabilitation and improvement of roads in Rodriguez; and purchase and installation of streetlights in San Mateo.
In a manifesto issued by the governors of Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon in 2019, the Senator was declared an adopted son of the CALABARZON region. They noted his years of service under President Duterte and "heart for his country" as evidenced by the countless projects he initiated that have helped millions of Filipinos. (OSBG)
