PASAY CITY -- As the Bureau of Fire Protection continues to modernize its fire-fighting capabilities, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go continues to provide immediate support to fire-hit families. Just recently, an outreach team of Senator Go distributed assistance to victims whose houses were damaged by fire incidents in Barangays Novaliches Proper and Gulod in Novaliches, Quezon City on Monday, September 6.

Senator Go continues to develop measures that will greatly benefit communities that are vulnerable to fire-related disasters as this led him to push for the enactment of Senate Bill No. 1832, otherwise known as the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act.

Under the measure authored and co-sponsored by Go, the BFP will be funded to acquire modern fire equipment, hire more personnel, and will be tasked to develop specialized trainings for firefighters. In addition, the BFP is mandated to conduct monthly fire prevention campaigns and information drives in every local government unit, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

After its bicameral conference committee report was ratified by the Senate on August 4, the bill is now expected to be signed by President Rodrigo Duterte soon.

Go expressed in his video message.

Go's team conducted the relief operation at Brgy. Gulod Covered Court where they catered to 29 and eight families from Brgys. Gulod and Novaliches Proper, respectively. While adhering to the safety and health measures against COVID-19, the beneficiaries received financial assistance, grocery packs, meals, masks, and vitamins from the Senator.

Meanwhile, representatives from the National Housing Authority gave the victims housing assistance through their Emergency Housing Assistance Program.

As Chair of Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go reiterated in his video message the importance of getting inoculated to protect them from the threat of coronavirus.

He then encouraged residents to avail of medical assistance when needed at any of the nine Malasakit Centers across Quezon City. These one stop shops provide convenient access to medical assistance programs offered by the government.

The Malasakit Centers in Quezon City are located at Lung Center of the Philippines, Novaliches District Hospital, Philippine Heart Center, Philippine Children's Medical Center, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, East Avenue Medical Center, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Philippine Orthopedic Center, and National Children's Hospital.

The Senator then expressed his appreciation towards the local government officials of Quezon City for spearheading their community and catering immeasurable service to help their constituents in need amid the crisis situations.

Go, being the Vice Chair of Senate Committee on Finance, extended his support in several projects that would boost public service delivery in Quezon City, such as the construction of multi-purpose buildings in Brgys. Project 6, Capri, and Bagbag; rehabilitation of road networks in Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center, enhancements for the Veterans Memorial Medical Center; construction of a multi-purpose building in Camp Aguinaldo, and many others.
