Brian Laundrie, 23, of North Port, Florida, United States and Gabrielle "Gabby" Petito, 22, of Blue Point, New York, USA were in Moab, Utah, USA on August 13, 2021. On September 11, 2021, her mother Nichole Schmidt reported her missing to the Suffolk County Police Department while police found him at his North Port home.

Before travelling to Moab on August 13, 2021, Laundrie and Petito visited different parts of Utah including Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands and Arches National Park. On August 12, 2021, she took to Instagram to share photos taken at the park.

"Our officers did respond to an incident involving Brian Laundrie and Gabrielle Petito on 12 August 2021," Moab Police Department chief Bret Edge told Fox News. "However, neither Brian or Gabrielle were the reporting party. Officers conducted an investigation and determined that insufficient evidence existed to justify criminal charges."

Edge did not confirm whether or not Laundrie and Petito were fighting that day. Information about the person who called the police on them that day was not released either.

Coincidentally, also on August 13, 2021, Kylen Carrol Schulte, 24, and her wife Crystal Michelle Turner, 38, were at Woody's Tavern in Moab. The couple went missing on August 14, 2021 and were found dead on August 18, 2021.

Schulte and Turner moved to Moab in 2016. They got married in April 2021, turned their van into a camper and frequently camped out in the Utah mountains.

In July 2020, Laundrie and Petito got engaged. They went to Blue Point on June 17, 2021 and attended her brother's high school graduation then left Blue Point on July 2, 2021 for their cross-country camping trip.

Laundrie and Petito travelled across the U.S. in a white 2012 Ford Transit van with a Florida license plate. On August 24, 2021, they checked out of a hotel in Salt Lake City,  Salt Lake County, Utah, the last place where she was seen.

On August 25, 2021, Petito called her mother via FaceTime and said she was in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, USA. On August 30, 2021, the mother received text messages sent from Petito's phone but the mother was not sure whether or not it was her daughter who sent them.

"It is our understanding that a search has been organized for Miss Petito in or near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming," Laundrie's attorney told WFLA. "On behalf of the boyfriend's family, it is our hope that the search for Miss Petito is successful and that Miss Petito is reunited with her family."
