Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal's legendary footballer and one of the best of all time, scored twice against the Republic of Ireland in a World Cup qualifier to set a new record for international goals.

Captain, leader, and legend are all names that fall short of the extraordinary feat that Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese life-size talismanic figure, has just completed in his career. The remarkable footballer recently scored twice in the dying seconds of a World Cup Qualifier game against the Republic of Ireland to take an epic victory literally from the jaws of defeat, leading his country to a stunning 2-1 win at the Estadio Algarve on Thursday (September 2).

Ronaldo's late brace in the 89th and 90+6th minute of injury time ensured the 36-year-old wrote his name all over the match and set a sensational all-time highest international goalscorer record ahead of Iran's Ali Daei, who held the no.1 spot for many years prior to CR7's imminent arrival at the top of the pile in men's international football.

Ronaldo, regarded as the greatest of all time, made headlines just a few days before his World Cup qualification match against Ireland at Estadio Algarve, for his long-awaited return to Manchester United after a 12-year wait by his fans and Man Utd supporters equally. In the last hours of the summer transfer window, CR7 agreed to a two-year contract with the Red Devils for a fee of £20 million from Juventus.

The English giants, orchestrated by super-agent Jorge Mendes and the Glazer family-run Manchester United, have welcomed the club veteran back into the reds' ranks under United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to play as the goal-scoring machine that he is in the ongoing 2021-22 Premier League season.

However, the most recent buzz surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo is the highly coveted honor awarded to the iconic Portuguese athlete by the world's most prestigious record book — Guinness World Records.

The Guinness Global Book of Records has named CR7 a world record breaker for the most goals scored by an individual in international football (soccer) matches (male).

"Thank you to the Guinness World Records. Always good to be recognized as a world record-breaker. Let's keep trying to set the numbers even higher!"

Ronaldo accomplished the accomplishment by scoring goals for his native Portugal proactively between 2003 and 2021, a career that is still going strong as he attempts to overcome yet another fresh hurdle following his departure from Turin with a year remaining on his contract with the Bianconeri.

"Your humility and goodwill make you an even bigger champion, @cristiano Long may your record last!" said Ali Daei, who held the record before Ronaldo.
