Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Thursday said he directed a heightened visibility of cops in public areas like malls and shopping centers as the 'ber' months start.
A PNP statement quoted Eleazar as directing police personnel to ensure that the public will observe minimum health standards in public places amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Mananatiling naka-alerto ang inyong PNP sa pagbabantay sa ating mga kababayan lalo na sa lugar na dating tambayan kung saan maaring magbaka-sakali ang mga snatcher at iba pang mga pasaway," he said.
(The PNP will stay on alert in securing the public especially in areas where people used to hang out where snatcher and other lawbreakers might take their chance.)
According to Eleazar, crime incidents usually increase during the holiday season. A heightened police visibility will prevent lawless elements from doing any criminal activities, he said.
However, he pointed out that the police will prioritize enforcing the COVID-19 guidelines.
"Mahalaga pa rin na ligtas at magkakasama ang bawat pamilyang Pilipino sa kanilang mga tahanan tungo sa pagdiriwang ng Kapaskuhan,"he said.
(It is still important that every Filipino family is safe and together in their homes as they celebrate Christmas.)
The PNP chief urged the public to cooperate with authorities in their continued enforcement of health protocols in light of the pandemic. -- Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
