PASAY CITY -- Continuing his untiring efforts to cater to more struggling communities in the province of Sulu, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go sent his team to give necessary support to thousands of essential workers in the town of Panglima Estino on Thursday, September 9.

The senator, who also serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, stated in his video message that the government is looking at expanding the vaccination rollout to the general public to ensure that more Filipinos are protected from the threat of the coronavirus.

He then reminded the beneficiaries to participate in the national vaccination program as this would further boost their body's defense system against COVID-19.

Conducted at Panglima Estino Plaza, the distribution activity was held in small batches and necessary health protocols were strictly implemented allowing the team to cater to a total of 2,000 essential workers, mainly composed of fisherfolk, Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association members, vendors, and laborers.

Go's team distributed essentials such as meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins. They also gave new pairs of shoes, bicycles, and computer tablets to selected recipients.

Various government agencies were also in attendance to provide different forms of assistance. The Department of Social Welfare and Development distributed financial assistance, while the Department of Health conducted free medical consultations and provided more face masks.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture assessed qualified fisherfolk and laborers who can take part in their training programs that would further enhance their potential in their respective fields.

Continuing his message, Senator Go then informed the residents that there are Malasakit Centers at Sulu Provincial Hospital and in Sulu Sanitarium in the town of Jolo that they can visit if they need medical assistance.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop designed to assist Filipinos, particularly poor and indigent patients, in reducing their medical expenses to the lowest amount possible.

Senator Go, who also serves as the Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported the construction of a multi-purpose building in Panglima Estino.

To further help in the economic success of the province, Go also extended support to the rehabilitation of Mainland Water District in Jolo; construction of seawall protection in Pangutaran, Patikul, and Hadji Panglima Tahil; construction of roads in Hadji Panglima Tahil, Inadanan, and Jolo, and many more.

Estino; Vice Mayor Sherhan Najar, and other local officials for extending great efforts to make certain that their constituents recover from the challenges caused by the pandemic.

Go's team previously gave similar forms of assistance to the struggling communities of Maimbung, Omar, and Parang from September 4 to 7. (OSBG)
