MANILA -- The City Government of Gingoog recognized the swift action of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) in giving enough vaccines to boost the city's vaccination drive.
During the Network Briefing News today, September 15, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin M. Andanar asked Mayor Erick Cañosa about their vaccination efforts as the city is under the General Community Quarantine with heightened restrictions from September 16 to 30, 2021 as approved by the IATF.
"We are very much thankful po sa IATF na binigyan po tayo ng maraming bakuna dito sa Gingoog City. [We are very much thankful to the IATF for giving us many vaccines here in Gingoog City]," he said.
This comes after the city faced a surge in COVID-19 cases in June following a community transmission of the virus, but the city government strengthened its vaccination information campaign emphasizing its importance in preventing any severe complications caused by the virus.
Increased Vaccination Rate
In accordance with their information dissemination campaign, the City Council along with the City Health Office and vaccination team joined forces to educate and inform the people as they went to different barangays in the city.
According to him, the vaccination rate of the city has increased a bit with the help of their medical frontliners.
"We set ourselves as role models po kasama si Vice Mayor at members of the City Council, nagpabakuna na po tayo noong inapprove po ng IATF na puwede na pong magpabakuna ang local chief executives para makita po nung iba. [We set ourselves as role models along with the Vice Mayor and the members of the City Council as we were vaccinated when the IATF approved the vaccination of local chief executives for others to see]," he said.
The City Council is also eyeing the opening of the Gingoog City Diagnostic Laboratories in November 2021 which will offer health care services like X-ray, ECG, ultrasound, and other laboratory services for the public.
As of September 14, 2021, the City Health Office reported that there are 233 active cases in Gingoog City while 1,578 have recovered out of the total 1,889 COVID-19 cases since June 2020. (PCOO)
