Oscar "The Golden Boy" de la Hoya, 48, of Los Angeles, California, United States will not be fighting Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort, 44, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil anytime soon. The two were supposed to headline a Triller Fight Club event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 11, 2021.

However, de la Hoya announced on September 3, 2021 from a hospital bed that he had tested positive for new coronavirus (COVID-19). The Mexican-American boxer holds a professional boxing record of 39 wins and 6 losses.

Triller Fight Club principal Ryan Kavanaugh, 46, told ESPN that Evander Holyfield, 58, had agreed to terms to replace de la Hoya as Belfort's opponent. Sources told the publication that the bout between Belfort and Holyfield, which will be eight two-minute rounds, is planned to be held at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida, USA.

Holyfield currently holds a professional boxing record of 44 wins, 2 losses and 1 No Contest. He fought from November 15, 1984 to May 7, 2011.

On the other hand, Belfort holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 26 wins, 14 losses and 1 No Contest. He also holds a professional boxing record of 1 win and 0 loss.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Belfort began boxing at the age of 12 and later earned a black belt in jiu-jitsu with the late Carlson Gracie. On April 11, 2006, Belfort made his professional boxing debut in Bahia, Brazil where he knocked out his countryman Josemario Neves.

After leaving the UFC, Belfort joined ONE Championship in 2019. In June 2021, it was confirmed that he left the Singapore-based martial arts organization without a single fight.

Recently, Belfort partnered with LITH Token ($LITH), a green-oriented decentralized community focused on improving the environment. As part of the partnership, he will represent LITH Token and its Indigenous People's Initiative (IPI).
