PASAY CITY -- The team of Senator Christopher "Bong" Go conducted another batch of relief efforts for 4,133 beneficiaries, composed of farmers, women groups, and fisherfolk, in Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur on Sunday, September 26 following their distribution in Bayog and Pagadian City.

In a video message during the activity held at Kumalarang Central School in Kumalarang, Go underscored the importance of wearing a mask when in public, physical distancing, and other health guidelines in light of the alarming rates of COVID-19 cases caused by new variants.

As the government continues to boost the economic recovery of the country, Go then appealed to the local government to ensure proper implementation of safety and health protocols in their community to make certain that their constituents are well protected from the threats of coronavirus.

"Ang importante po sa ngayon habang patuloy ang pagbabakuna, huwag maging kumpyansa dahil delikado po itong COVID-19. Lalong-lalo na po na mayroong bagong variant na Delta variant na mas nakakahawa po," Go cited.

"Sa ngayon naman po, binabalanse po ng ating gobyerno ang buhay, kalusugan at ekonomiya. Importante po sa amin ni Pangulong Duterte ang buhay ng bawat tao," he added.

To efficiently cater to the thousands of beneficiaries, Go's team grouped them into smaller batches and enforced necessary safety protocols as they handed out meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins.

Selected recipients received new pairs of shows and bicycles that they can use to conveniently travel to work or get daily necessities. Some residents were provided computer tablets which their children can use for their school activities under the blended learning setup.

"Mga kabataan, mag-aral ho kayo nang mabuti. Bagama't limited face-to-face learning tayo, bagama't online po ang pag-aaral ninyo, importante po matapos kayo ng pag-aaral," Go expressed.

Meanwhile, staff from the Department of Social and Development gave each beneficiary financial assistance. The Department of Health conducted medical check-ups and gave supplies of masks, vitamins, and hygiene kits while the Department of Agriculture supplied them with vegetable seeds.

Representatives from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority assessed potential beneficiaries and committed to extend scholarship grants. Lastly, the Department of Labor and Employment and the Department of Trade and Industry gave livelihood opportunities to qualified individuals.

As Chair of Senate Committee on Health and Demography, the Senator also offered to assist residents with medical concerns. He informed them that they may conveniently avail of medical assistance programs from the government through the Malasakit Centers located at Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center in Pagadian City, and Margosatubig Regional Hospital in Margosatubig.

To date, there are 141 Malasakit Centers nationwide. Go authored and sponsored the Malasakit Centers Act as part of his commitment to provide Filipinos access to quality health care services.

In line with his pledge to help in the economic recovery of the Kumalarang, Go, who serves as the Vice Chair of Senate Committee on Finance, extended his support in the rehabilitation of a multi-purpose building in the municipality.

Go also supported the construction of multi-purpose buildings in Aurora, Dimataling, Dinas, Lapuyan, Pagadian City, Pitogo, Ramon Magsaysay, Sominot, and Tigbao; acquisition of multi-purpose vehicles in Bayog; acquisition of new medical equipment and motor vehicle for Margosatubig Regional Hospital; construction of a two-storey public market in San Pablo; renovation of the Municipal Public Park in Tambulig; and the construction of a two-storey hospital building in Camp Navarro General Hospital in Zamboanga City.

Concluding his message, he commended the local officials of Kumalarang for supporting their constituents to help them overcome challenges caused by the national health crisis. (OSBG)
