PASAY CITY -- The Office of Senator Christopher "Bong" Go resumed its relief activities in Bukidnon on Tuesday, October 5, assisting thousands of residents belonging to vulnerable sectors and their families who are experiencing hardships triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a video message, Go reminded the public that the betterment of their community depends on protecting the welfare of its most vulnerable members. He urged authorities to ensure that adequate protections are in place so residents can continue to carry out activities essential to the well-being of their community.

"Mga kababayan, ang laban sa COVID-19 ay nag-uumpisa sa ating mga tahanan at komunidad. Ang pagsunod natin sa patakaran, pag-alaga sa ating kalusugan, pagsuot ng mask at pag-obserba ng physical distancing ay mga simpleng paraan na makakatulong sa bayan na malampasan ang krisis na ito," said Go.

"Huwag sana tayo maging kampante at huwag kayo maging kumpyansa. Let us remain vigilant since the fight is far from over. Let me remind everyone that your compliance with the health protocols will save lives and help the economy recover," he added.

The senator's personnel provided snacks, vitamins, masks, and face shields to a total of 1,937 residents in batches at the Damulog municipal gymnasium and Municipal Dome in Kibawe.

They gave selected residents new pairs of shoes, as well as bicycles to people who commute. Others received computer tablets to help their children continue their studies under a blended learning approach.

In addition, representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development distributed financial assistance as part of an ongoing effort by the government to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on lower-income communities.

Last August, the senator's office and partner agencies also joined forces to assist over 1,000 beneficiaries, including motorela and payong-payong drivers, in Valencia City and Pangantucan whose incomes were affected by pandemic restrictions. All activities were conducted in compliance with the health and safety protocols against COVID-19.

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Go offered further assistance to those with medical concerns. He advised residents to visit the Malasakit Center at the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital in Maramag where they may avail of medical assistance from the government.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop which provides particularly poor and indigent patients convenient access to the medical assistance offered by the relevant agencies, namely the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. The program, which Go launched in 2018 and subsequently legislated in 2019, has 141 operational centers nationwide.

In the end, the senator expressed his gratitude to various public officials for their efforts to assist those most vulnerable and in need. Among these were 3rd District Representative Manuel Zubiri; Governor Jose Ma. Zubiri Jr.; Damulog Mayor Melino Buro and Vice Mayor Alberto Salmasan; and Kibawe Mayor Reynaldo Rabanes and Vice Mayor Raymundo Batao Jr.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go has supported many infrastructure initiatives in the province of Bukidnon to boost economic growth and improve public service delivery. Among these are the construction of an evacuation center, municipal building and local access road as well as a solar lights project in Damulog.

He also supported the construction of a slaughterhouse, multi-purpose building and the Northern Bukidnon Agri-Industrial Economic Zone Road Network and Southern Bukidnon Agri-Industrial Economic Zone road network development projects in Don Carlos.

Moreover, he helped in the improvement of road links in Baungon, Libona and Talakag; an access road leading to the Bukidnon Airport; farm-to-market and local roads in Cabanglasan, Kadingilan, Kibawe, Kitaotao, Lantapan, San Fernando, Talakag and Valencia City; and other road linkages throughout the province.
