CALOOCAN Load Manna Knights and Pasig Pirates produced impressive victories to forge a three-way tie for the lead in the Northern Division in the 2021 PCAP San Miguel Corporation- Ayala Land chess championships.
Caloocan, bannered by IM overwhelmex Paulo Bersamina and IM Barlo Nadera, whipped Pengcheng-China, 21-0, and Bangkok-Thailand, 15.5-5.5, while Pasig, led by Rudy Ibanez and Eric Labog Jr., shocked erstwhile unbeaten San Juan Predators, 15.5-5.5, and Laguna Heroes, 13.5-7.5.
The twin victories enabled the Load Manna Knights and the Pirates to share the lead with the Predators sith similar 14-1 wIn-loss records.
Overall, Caloocan leads the way after the tiebreaks with 227 points against San Jusn's 226.5 points and Pasig's 218.5 points.
Bersamina outclassed Li Tian Chao of Pengcheng, 3-0, and CM Prin Laohawirapap of Bangkok, 2.5-.5, and Nadera overwhelmed Zhou Yanglechen of Pengcheng, 3-0, and Brunel Baron Burbach of Bangkok, 3-0, to lead the Load Manna Knights' charge.
Ibanez subdued IM Ricardo de Guzman of San Juan, 3-0, and FM Efren Bagamasbad of Laguna, 3-0 while Labog
trounced Narciso Gumila of San Juan, 3-0, CM Bayangat of Laguna, 3-0, to power the Pirates.
Before losing to Pasig, Laguna overwhelmed Pampanga Checkers, 15-6, to remain in solo fourth place with 12-3 record.
The biggest casualty for the day were the Manila Indios Bravos, who lost to Davao Eagles, 10-11, and San Juan, 4-17.
Isabela Knight Raiders won over Bangkok, 12-9, and Davao, 12.5-8.5, to move up to sixth place with a 9-6 record.
