QUEZON CITY -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in the province of Cebu has launched the microfinance credit program operations of Hagnaya Organized People for Environment Multi-Purpose Cooperative (HOPEMPC) held in HOPEMPC office in barangay Hagnaya, Carmen.

The Provincial Agrarian Reform Office through Enterprise Development and Economic Support (EDES) program has a capital-build-up of P200,000 that could be used by the agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in improving their farm productivity.

Assistant Regional Director and concurrent OIC-Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Louie Naranjo said HOPEMPC is a DAR-assisted agrarian reform beneficiaries organization that has been a recipient of organizational strengthening, agri-enterprise, and other training, which qualify the coop as a microfinance provider.

"Our department would continue to empower our cooperatives because the primary beneficiaries are our farmers in the countryside, which are needing much support to improve their lives," Naranjo said.

HOPEMPC Chairman Rosal Jayme said that 58 ARB-members are now availing the credit assistance through their loan programs.

"I would like to thank the DAR for the opportunities that they provided us and for their continued support and guidance in facing the challenges we encounter in our operations," she said.

The launching of finance operations of Hagnaya Organized People for Environment Multi-Purpose Cooperative (HOPEMPC) held in HOPEMPC Office in barangay Hagnaya, Carmen.
 

The cooperative was organized in 1993 and has been engaged in consumer store business and up to now, they are serving the members and residents in Barangay Hagnaya amidst the time of the pandemic.

HOPEMPC Manager Petronio Peñas shared that in 2017, with DAR-DTI partnership, the coop underwent product development training on sinamay products such as hats, curtain holders, placemats, and bags. The handcrafted sinamay products by the members are even exported, thereby enhancing the coop's income.

Present during the launching of the micro-finance operations ceremony were OIC-Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Fiel Roz, Agrarian Reform Program Technologist Ma. Hilda Cadigal, Senior Agrarian Reform Program Officer (SARPO) Victoriano Morato, and Agri-Enterprise Development Specialist Rollin Villar. (DAR)
