PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher "Bong" Go said that the Duterte administration remains committed to fulfill its vision of long-lasting peace and development in the country especially in the countryside. Despite the ongoing pandemic, he said that efforts to resolve local conflicts and address root causes of insurgencies such as hunger and poverty shall continue.

Masakit 'yon," said Go earlier.

"We hope that the government's efforts will be successful in achieving sustainable peace and development across the country," he added.

He also expressed further his support for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao as an instrument of genuine change to usher long-lasting peace and development in the region.

Going back to his experiences in Davao, Go emphasized that progress is nearly impossible to attain without peace and order. He added that when President Rodrigo Duterte was elected Mayor of Davao City in 1988, he immediately set about tackling the city's criminality and insurgency problems.

"Talaga pong magulo noon. Go would recount in his previous speeches.

Go went on to say that achieving peace and prosperity will be the final redress for the decades of historical injustice that certain sectors have experienced.

The Bangsamoro Organic Law was signed into law by Duterte in 2018. It was subjected to a plebiscite in 2019, during which the majority voted for the law's ratification. The BOL is a component of the 2014 peace accord between the government and the former separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which brought an end to a long-running conflict in the southern Philippines that has claimed the lives of over 120,000 people.

Go has always been a supporter of localized peace talks as a modality towards lasting peace in the country. In his previous interviews, he said that the roots of rebellion in the country are usually due to local issues, such as poverty and neglect, which can be addressed on a local level.

The senator has also pushed for initiatives to improve all assistance packages given by the government for rebel returnees, such as bigger livelihood assistance with the necessary training, housing, farming lots, easier livelihood credit access, medical care, and education support for their children, among others.
