CALOOCAN (PIA) — The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) warned the public against purchasing medicines online for COVID-19 treatment, such as Tocilizumab and Baricitinib.
"Huwag pong bibili ng gamot online o kaya kahit sa sinong kaibigan na ganyan ang nasabi 'no," FDA Director General Eric Domingo said in a Laging Handa Public Briefing.
The FDA chief appealed to the public to only avail medicines in registered and licensed pharmacies.
The FDA stated that they had conducted several operations with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to capture those selling drugs online or in the black market.
He added that the agency had caught counterfeit or fake medicines that may cause harm to people.
Baricitinib and Tocilizumab are anti-inflammatory drugs for people with severe arthritis, which can also be used to treat patients with COVID-19, the FDA chief stated. (JMB/PIA-IDPD)
